Thousands of new UCPH students at ceremony

Thousands at Vor Frue Plads, central Copenhagen to meet their fellow University of Copenhagen students at the official matriculation. It was the first matriculation that combined new international and Danish students

A welcome speech by Rector Ralf Hemmingsen was followed by a musical performances by the student choir and the student big band. Students filed past Rector Ralf Hemmingsen and Prorector Lykke Friis for the traditional handshake.

In the courtyard, beers and hotdogs.

Last year, university management decided to merge the matriculation ceremonies that had previously been separate for Danish and international students.

The selfies had started to feed in on Twitter before the ceremony began: Others looked forward to greeting the man in charge:

Later, students headed over to the matriculation party at Studenterhuset, with live music and cheap beer.

One student, put it simply in the language of Twitter: “First day of my #masters #excited #ucph”.
