After completing three years of studies, University of Copenhagen students in pharmaceutical science traditionally celebrate by watching their lab coats disappear into a cloud of smoke
For pharmaceutical science students at the University of Copenhagen, their lab coats hold a very special and ceremonious role. They are associated with many traditions and rituals, decorated with cheeky phrases and images, and, at the end of their last semester, are enthusiastically burned!
Most of these rituals are shrouded in secrecy, but one reporter managed to get a peek at one of the most symbolic ceremonies, which only occurs once a student has completed all of their mandatory training. For those who have completed all of the required ‘challenges’, one coat sleeve can be kept as a symbolic souvenir.
Check out our gallery here, and watch these students welcome spring with this ceremonial burning.
