Talk by Professor Kenneth Gregory Zysk,
Institut for Tværkulturelle og Regionale Studier.

Abstract:

This talk focuses on the exchange of early scientific ideas via omens in Mesopotamian and in Indian antiquities. It proposes that ideas about physiognomy first appearing in Akkadian omen texts from the middle of the seventh century BCE were transmitted to India and show up first in vernacular literature from the 8th century CE. In the talk, we shall discuss how it was done and propose when it might first have taken place.
