We’re thrilled to announce another North European Emergency and Disaster Studies (NEEDS) conference to be held in 2017. Expect four world-class keynote speakers, a path-breaking cooperation with Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, who will host NEEDS 3; a track dedicated to practitioners and a series of experiments with the traditional conference formats. So: please block 17-19 May 2017 in your calendar – it will be fun!

Speakers:

  • Dorothea Hilhorst is professor of humanitarian aid and reconstruction in disaster and conflict at the International Institute of Social Studies at the Erasmus University in The Hague, NL.
  • Kathleen Tierney is professor of sociology and the former director of the Natural Hazards Center at the University of Colorado Boulder, CO, US.
  • Greg Bankoff is professor of history at the University of Hull, UK.

Deadlines:

  • January 20 2017: Call for papers (abstracts)
  • February 1 2017: Final registration and payment of conference fee opens
  • April 18 2017: Final deadline for registration
