Øvrige — Fashion show featuring ancient costumes representing Bronze Age Egypt/Sudan, Hallstatt, Austria, as well as prehistoric Denmark including the Viking Age. These garments have been reconstructed by textile archaeologists and crafted by skilled textile craftspeople. During the event, we will not only showcase the design of these costumes but also share insights into the time and material consumption, resources and tools required, and the skills and expertise needed to produce them.

Today, there is a clear focus on the sustainability of textiles and textile production, as well as the resources consumed in the process. For instance, the amount of water required to cultivate cotton is calculated and the harmful environmental impact of fast fashion is increasingly recognised.
How much do we know about the use of resources and materials in the ancient past? How much can we calculate from the evidence available to us? How can this knowledge be used in an interpretation of past societies? Those questions will be addressed in a fashion show which will present costumes from the Bronze Age to the Middle Ages, representing Sudan, Central Europe and prehistoric Denmark, including the Viking Age. Reconstructed by textile archaeologists and crafted by skilled textile craftspeople, the costumes will be showcased, and their production will be explained.
Participation is free of charge, but registration is required.
Following the fashion show, various textile techniques used to produce the costumes will be demonstrated and all participants are invited to practise. (17:00-18:30 at CTR – also free of charge)
