Join us for an exciting day at the Øresund Aquarium in Elsinore where the day’s topic is the greenland shark!

Talk about the greenland shark

We start at 11 am where Professor M.Sc. John Fleng Steffensen from the Marine Biological Section, University of Copenhagen, will talk about the biology of the ”sleepy giant”. This will take place in the Auditorium at the Øresund Aquarium in Elsinore.

Please note that since the auditorium can hold maximum 150 guests it is first come, first serve – so arrive in good time to secure your seat. If you do not get a seat, the aquarium arranges other activities while you wait for the dissection to begin.

Dissection

At 12.15 pm, we move outdoors where marine biologist Michael Hansen from the Øresund Aquarium will dissect a 2.2 meters long greenland shark.

The shark he dissects was caught during John Fleng Steffensen’s research trip to Greenland in June 2019. Unfortunately, the shark was dead when caught but it was quickly frozen and transported to Denmark where it is now used for research- and information purposes at the Øresund Aquarium and Marine Biological Section in Elsinore.

You do not need to sign up for this event.

Remember warm clothes as part of the event is taking place outdoors.
