Join UCPH for the Copenhagen Pride Parade

LGBTQ+ — This year’s Pride is just around the corner. Up to 30,000 people are expected to participate in the rainbow parade on Saturday 18th August, and there is still space for you on the UCPH float.

On Saturday 18th August, the streets of Copenhagen will yet again be the scene for thousands of rainbow-coloured flags, when the annual Pride Parade stops all traffic from the Frederiksberg town hall to Copenhagen square Rådhuspladsen for two hours.

As a student or employee at the University of Copenhagen you can literally jump on the bandwagon, when UCPH joins the parade. To mark the occasion, UCPH will turn into ‘Diversity of Copenhagen’ and there is both a party and human rights on the agenda.

At the end of the rainbow

Every year, LGBTQ+ rights are celebrated in Copenhagen with a whole week dedicated to debates, talks and shows. The process culminates with the Pride Parade and a huge party on Saturday on Pride Square (better known as Rådhuspladsen). This year, UCPH is responsible for one of the 123 registered vehicles/floats that will snake their way through almost 300,000 interested spectators along the route.

Pride is a festival which aims to create awareness about LGBTQ+ rights. The vision is to create a world where anyone can love and live freely and safely.

Minister for Gender Equality Eva Kjer Hansen opens the human rights programme already on Tuesday. It consists of a number of debates, workshops and presentations on gender and sexuality. Among other attractions, you can attend Drag for Beginners. A debate on femshame, sex culture and Grindr. Or to a presentation on say Chemsex or the LGBTQIA-inclusive environments at universities. Later this week, you can also experience Europe’s largest drag show, free concerts with Danish singer Anne Linnet and street parties in the Rådhuspladsen side streets.

Saturday is the largest of the week’s celebrations. So put on your feather boa and celebrate diversity at UCPH. You need to sign up here by 16th August so that the university has time to order enough merchandise and facial glitter.
