New journalists at the University Post

Sebastian Dall Mayoni and Jonathan Transbøl started work at the University Post as full-time journalists on 1 August.

The University Post now has a couple of new faces on the team. Sebastian Dall Mayoni (29) and Jonathan Transbøl (28) will write for this site, and you may meet them around campus at the University of Copenhagen.

Sebastian Dall Mayoni

Sebastian dall Mayoni

Born 15 February 1993 in Haderslev. Trained as a journalist from the Danish School of Media and Journalism. Studied History of Literature at Aarhus University and American Studies at the University of Southern Denmark. Lives in Copenhagen’s Østerbro district with his girlfriend Camilla.

»As a journalist, I have written feature articles portraying cities, celebrities and ordinary, average people. I’ve done this for the magazines Euroman, Ud & Se and Børsen Pleasure. I generally find people fun!

I did a feature article a year ago about an island in the middle of the Limfjorden channel called Fur. Here, a local gang had many years ago set up an illegal fence around an ancient burial mound. Every time the fence was removed by the local authorities, the fencing gang set up a new one. In fact, my feature was not so much about the fence, but about the people who live on the island who would like to be able to make their own decisions. Because when the local primary and secondary schools, the library and everything else has been taken from the locals, the authorities should not also be allowed to determine what has to stay.

This is just to say that I love meeting people and writing about people. That’s why I’m really looking forward to talking to students, professors, administrators and politicians in order to make the University of Copenhagen (UCPH) an even better place. The University Post is both a place where you can be critical of those in power, and tell a good story. I’m looking forward to doing both.«

Jonathan Transbøl

Jonathan Transbøl

Born 2 August 1994 in Rudersdal. Master’s in journalism from Aarhus University with a BSc in Business Administration and philosophy from Copenhagen Business School (CBS). Lives in Copenhagen’s Østerbro district with his girlfriend Cecilie.

»It has only been eighteen months since I left university, and I am honestly pretty chuffed to be able to come back again. It’s nice to be here, and I am going to do my very best to keep it that way. This can be by telling fun, quirky stories about daily life or by holding those in power to account.

I love talking to people. In particular, the people who are more clever than I am. And I imagine that I will have ample opportunity to do so as a journalist at the University Post. I am looking forward to exploring the intellectual spirit, the traditions, and the vision of what the future holds. All of these things can be found at UCPH.

As a journalist, I have had experience working on Frihedsbrevet, on KapitalWatch and Den Uafhængige. And an internship at the Danish embassy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. I’m a good buddy, and I’d like to talk to as many students and staff as possible. If you have a story about something strange, fun, important, unimportant or downright revolutionary, then don’t hesitate to contact me.«
