Consequences of large research Centres and the Matthew effect for the Danish research landscape

The Danish research funding landscape has changed within the past decade with the emergence of several massive research centres funded by private foundations. Moreover, analyses show that funding in general is more likely granted to researchers already holding large grants. This is known as the Matthew effect – ‘the ones who have will be given more’. In combination, this strongly shapes the Danish research landscape.

The Strategic Research Council of Department of Biology (BIO-SFU) houses an afternoon event on the trends and directions in Danish research and its impact on young researchers, university education and independent research.
