Learning Analytics is the measurement, collection, analysis, and reporting of data about learners and their contexts to understand and optimize learning and the environments in which it occurs. However, learning takes place across many different settings. I am interested in supporting collaborative learning. To understand and improve collaboration in education, we turn to multimodal learning analytics (MMLA) that uses different sensors (computer vision, audio, physiological) combined with data streams from learning management systems and digital tools to capture the different ways people interact. My aim with MMLA is to empower the learners. The role of supporting self-efficacy through technology is explored, with a nod to nudging people towards reflection and self-regulation.
