Hans Ulrich Gumbrecht is professor of comparative literature at Stanford University and appears as one of the world’s most influential humanities scholars. He has written, among many other things, In 1926: Living at the Edge of Time (1998), In Praise of Athletic Beauty (2006) and After 1945: Latency as Origin of the Present (2013).
