Abstract
Perceptual processing has been treated as a modular system whereby sensory information is kept separate and then integrated at late cortical processing stages. Yet, electrophysiological studies indicate that multisensory integrations (MSI) may occur in primary sensory cortices. Although numerous studies have been conducted on MSI, the majority of these investigations have not carefully studied its spatiotemporal characteristics in detail. Four studies were designed to investigate the spatial and temporal dynamics of MSI in two-dimensional peripersonal space (PPS).
