“Late antique theologians invented a Christian past that went back even to before the advent of Christianity. On this basis, they often argued that what was old was also good. But did this always result in traditionalist attitudes towards the past? In the light of the diversity of historical practices in late antiquity, the lecture will provide a nuanced answer.”
