Spillover / The next pandemic threat

Ebola, Marburg, Nipah, COVID-19, and now avian flu – the list of deadly viruses jumping from animals to humans keeps on growing. Despite the long coexistence of these pathogens and humans, why are these spillover events becoming alarmingly frequent? What role do our actions play in triggering these outbreaks? The director, award‑winning filmmaker Michael Wech, and the producer, Emmy winner Leopold Hoesch, seek to find the answer in Spillover, where they take viewers on a journey to uncover how viruses cross from animals to humans — and how future outbreaks and pandemics may emerge.

Director: Leopold Hoesch, Cambodia, Malaysia, Australia, Hong Kong, the USA and Belgium. 2025
