Foredrag — Every second Tuesday during lunch a DIKU researcher gives a presentation of a selected research topic. The lecture series will give you an insight into DIKU's research areas, motivate you to follow your interest in computer science and prepare you for choosing a subject for your bachelor's project. DIKU Bits is organised by VILU, Heads of Studies at DIKU, and Datalogisk Fagråd.

On Tuesday 22nd of October from 12.15-13.00 in Small UP1, Morten Akhøj Pedersen from the P1AI section will speak at DIKU Bits. Bring your lunch, your fellow students, and join a visual tour of shape analysis.

Morten will dive into how in the field of ‘shape analysis’, we construct a mathematical space in which each point represents a shape, e.g. a curve or a surface. This talk illustrates this space of shapes: what does the shortest path from a dog to a cat look like? How about a random walk starting from a butterfly? How can we do statistics and machine learning on a set of shapes? Answers to such questions are important in e.g. evolutionary biology, which is the focus of our Center for Computational Evolutionary Morphology.

DIKU Bits is the perfect place to spark your inspiration, fuel interests, and get closer to research at DIKU. Whether you are considering a project out of scope, want to get inspired for an upcoming bachelor project or thesis, or simply find the topic exciting, this is the perfect opportunity for you to expand your horizons.
