Although 3D printers are now cheap and widely available, most people don’t have them in their homes. Why not? My research looks at how end users might be able to undertake augmented fabrication—the process of designing and fabricating new objects to repair, upgrade, or enhance existing items. I will talk about formative work that illustrates just how difficult 3D design is for non-experts and present two systems that aim towards making augmented fabrication easier.
Which courses do you teach? (BSc and MSc)
I’m currently co-teaching the COMIT Interaction Design course and the DIKU Mobile Computing course.
Which technology/research/projects/startup are you excited to see the evolution of?
I’m excited about efforts in making physical technology like 3D printing and laser cutting more accessible to everyday people. Also Mugsy, the robotic coffee maker!
What is your favorite sketch from the DIKUrevy?
I don’t know what DIKUrevyen is.
